A blanket of cloud low over the water, and a morning quiet enough to hear the ocean breathe.
Taken in April 2024 on the sand at the northern end of Carmel Beach, directly below Pebble Beach Golf Links' ninth green, in Monterey County, California, this photograph came from a beach run Adam took with his wife on a fresh, slightly drizzly spring morning. The weather kept most people away, leaving the two of them to exercise, spend time together, breathe the ocean air, and finish with coffee.
Adam grew up with this coastline's brooding weather, though a mix of overcast and sun is more typical in his experience than a morning this heavy with cloud. The dark sky felt less like gloom and more like shelter, a blanket of love from the sky and the ocean both. Mornings like this make Carmel feel like a town people actually live in, not just a place people visit.
Quiet, coastal, unhurried. A morning worth keeping.
